The War Within introduced two gear upgrade currencies: Valorstones and Harbinger Crests. These can be traded at the item upgraders NPCs Cuzolth and Vaskarn.
Each item may be upgraded to its maximum level only once for a slot. Then upgrades to that slot will be cheaper. In addition the pity system that was introduced with The War Within lowers extreme variation in the chance to upgrade.
